The Kōshun was built in 1858, slightly later than the reconstruction undertaken during the Ansei era, to serve an Emperor Kōmei’s study chamber. It is connected to the northern side of the Otsunegoten (Emperor’s Residential Palace) by a connecting corridor. From south to north, the rooms are arranged in the following order: the Minami-no-ma(South Room), the Kita-no-ma (North Room) and the Kita-toriai-no-ma (North Junction Space).
