The Lower Villa, located at the western entrance of the Shugakuin Imperial Villa, features the Jugetsukan building, which includes a palanquin porch designed to receive imperial visits from Emperors Emeriti. Although the Jugetsukan has existed since the original construction of the Lower Villa, the current building was reconstructed in 1824. In the past, the Lower Villa comprised several structures, including the Wankyoku-kaku, a two-story building; the Zorokuan, a tea-ceremony room attached to the Jugetsukan; and the Okiyo-dokoro, a kitchen facility. However, today, only the Jugetsukan remains.
