The Omima, which literally means “three rooms”, is a palace with three rooms. These three rooms (from the east, the Jodan-no-ma (Upper Room), the Chudan-no-ma (Middle Room), and the Gedan-no-ma (Lower Room)) are surrounded by the Goenzashiki (rectangular tatami-matted peripheral space) on three sides, and the Sunokoen (an additional external wooden-floored veranda-like area) to the south.
