The Seikatei is an "O-chaya" (literally, a tea house) located at the southern end of the Sento Imperial Palace. It is the only remaining structure of those built around the pond during the Edo period. This teahouse is reminiscent of one of the ten waka poems called "Sento Jyukkei", which describes the beautiful view of cherry blossoms seen from the Seikatei. The poem was written by Reizei Tamemura on the order of Emperor Emeritus Sakuramachi, who abdicated the throne in 1747. The poem describes the beautiful view of cherry blossoms and the Seikatei. The existing building was rebuilt in 1808 during the reign of Empress Regnant Emerita Go-sakuramachi.
