The Kyūsuitei is an ocha-ya (literally, teahouse) built in the hōgyō-zukuri style, featuring a pyramidal roof (a hipped roof with four sides). It is located at the highest point of the central island, which is reached by crossing the Kaede-bashi (Maple Bridge) over Yokuryūchi Pond. It is the only structure that remains from the time of the original construction. The roof is made of kokera-buki (wooden shingles) and is topped with a rōban (decorative base) and a hōju (sacred jewel-shaped finial). Although the building has never been rebuilt since it was first commissioned by Emperor Emeritus Gomizuno-o, it was repaired during the Bunsei era by order of Emperor Emeritus Kōkaku.
