These are terraced fields that stretch between the Lower, Middle, and Upper Villas of the Shugakuin Imperial Villa complex. Emperor Emeritus Gomizuno-o thoughtfully incorporated the existing farmland into the creation of the Shugakuin Imperial Villa, making use of both its agricultural function and scenic beauty. After World War II, the land became privately owned due to agricultural land reforms. However, in 1964, the government repurchased the area, and it is currently maintained and managed by the Imperial Household Agency.
