Kemari-no-niwa

The Kemari-no-niwa, a small courtyard of white gravel situated between the Ogakumonjo and the Kogosho, was the site where kemari, ancient football game of the imperial court, was held. The Emperor would observe the game from his seat in the Ogakumonjo.
