In the main room of the Koshoin, known as the "Ichi-no-ma" (first room), a tokonoma alcove is prominently positioned at the front. The toko-bashira (alcove post) is crafted from menkawa-bashira—pillars with all four sides smoothly shaved, leaving natural bark only at the corners. These are among several distinctive features that impart a sense of solidity and tranquility to the space.
