When the shoji sliding doors of the Ni-no-ma (second room) are opened, a spacious garden unfolds beyond the open-air hiroen (veranda) and the tsukimidai (moon-viewing platform) that extends toward the garden. Measuring 4 meters wide and 2.9 meters deep, the tsukimidai is framed with chestnut wood and floored with 100 bamboo rods arranged in sunoko-bari (a slatted bamboo style). Projecting from the veranda toward the pond, it was designed as a dedicated space for moon viewing. From this vantage point, one can not only admire the moon, but also enjoy sweeping views of the garden’s scenic features.
