The Yushintei, located on the west shore of the Kitaike (north) pond, is an O-chashitsu (tea-ceremony room) that was moved in 1884 from the Konoe Family residence inside the Imadegawa gate of the Kyoto Gyoen National Garden. The Soan (thatched hut)-style tea-ceremony room, believed to have been favored by Gengensai (the 11th grand master of the Urasenke School of Tea), has its entrance at the southern front area of the Yotsume-gaki bamboo lattice fence, which divides the garden into two areas: the inner and outer gardens. The latter contains the Soto-koshikake (outer roofed waiting bench). The Yushintei tea-ceremony room thus embodies the world of wabicha (rustic and tranquil style of tea ceremony), which is distinctly different from the strolling style pond gardens.
