Structure | One-story wooden structure with shingled roof |
From the Yūshintei, passing through the thatched-roof middle gate, one reaches the Soto-koshikake (outer waiting bench), located a short distance away. This structure features a single-eaved kokerabuki (wooden shingle) roof. From the boat landing on the north pond, visitors were guided along stepping stones, crossing the path to arrive at the Soto-koshikake.
On the left side, the sleeve wall is partially open to the air, while the right side is fitted with a shitaji-mado (exposed bamboo lattice farming). On the rear side, two setchin(privies)are installed. The bench itself is approximately 3 meters wide, made of bamboo. Stepping stones are placed at the base, and the bench can accommodate about four adults.
Like Yūshintei, the Soto-koshikake is built in an extremely simple style. It serves as a waiting area until preparations for the tea ceremony are complete, acting as an entrance that gently leads guests into the world of wabi.
