The Ichi-no-ma (First Room) measures 12.5 tatami mats in size. On its north side stands the Kasumi-dana, one of the three most beautiful and iconic decorative shelves in Japan—the other two being the Katsura-dana at Katsura Imperial Villa and the Daigo-dana at Sanbō-in of Daigoji Temple. The Kasumi-dana features five shelf boards arranged to resemble drifting mist, creating an elegant and graceful impression. The shelf spans approximately 290 cm in width, with the longest central board measuring 144 cm and the shortest, in the upper right corner, measuring 75 cm. Each board is 2.5 cm thick. The material used is zelkova wood, prized for its durability and refined beauty.
